Fair History

The Oakland County Fair was founded by the Milford Agricultural Society in the 1880's. It was an annual event that was held until World War II in 1940. The Fair returned as an annual event again in 1945.

During the early years Fairs were a source of community and commerce. They offered farmers and ranchers an opportunity to display and market their goods. The Fair also was a source of pride as the people competed with one another in various competitions to win the coveted first place blue ribbon.

The Fair remained in the Milford area until the 1950's when it was relocated to the Pontiac Area. It then was held at various locations in the Pontiac Area, primarily at the Perry Street property. A historical marker has been placed at this site. As the area and community grew in the 1950's it was determined that a new home for the Fair would be needed and eventually the Fair move to its current location in Davisburg in 1971.

As society has grown and changed so has the role of the Fair. While the Fair has remain a source of community it now serves as an educational opportunity, a connection with agriculture and family friendly entertainment. The mission of the Oakland County Fair is to provide a public educational showcase of our youth through hands-on experience with exhibits, demonstrations, and presentations as young people develop life skills in a
family atmosphere.
