Rules:

1.Exhibitors must read and follow General Rules and Livestock Department Rules.

2.Exhibitor must follow all MDARD Animal Health Requirements as posted on Fair web site: www.oakFair.org. Call the Fair Office to obtain a copy of these requirements or go to www.michigan.gov/mda-exibitorinfo.

3.Breeding stock must be under ownership by Discovery Day of the current year.

4.No bucks will be permitted.

5.Each exhibitor may enter two (2) goats per class.

6.Does are permitted to have horns according to breed standards.

7.Milk-out time will be at 6:00 p.m. the night before the show.If not, the animal must be milked out completely the morning of show or be disqualified.

8.Doe will be checked at night by Superintendent but not handled.

9.Exhibitors showing Dairy Breeding Goats are encouraged to wear white clothing.

10.For Homegrown classes, a second animal entered by an exhibitor cannot place until all exhibitors first animal has been placed.

11.Goats are encouraged to be clipped prior to arrival at Fair to facilitate checks for lice.No animals with lice/mange will be allowed in the barn.

  • Five to Seven-year-old exhibitors may show in competitive showmanship and specific pet or breed classes.If so, they will follow all check in/check out times and rules.Five to Seven-year-old exhibitors may show in noncompetitive classes and bring in or borrow an animal from another exhibitor for the day of the show but cannot do both competitive and noncompetitive in the same Livestock areas.See General Rule #1 Eligibility.

Barn Set Up for Fair: Tuesday, July 3rd at 5pm

Check In Date:Saturday, July 7thfrom 6-9 PM and Sunday, July 8th from 8 AM to NOON

Weigh In: At check in

Show Date: Wednesday, July 11th at 9:00 am

Show order will be posted in the barn.

All Goat Contest Classes will be judged on Thursday, July 12th starting at 9:00 am.

Large Animal Auction:Saturday, July 14th at 6:30 p.m.

Animal Release:Auction animals are released after the auction, all others 6 pm, the last Sunday of Fair.However, exhibitors are responsible for their projects until they have been loaded for removal from the Fair.

Placing: 1 through 6, Rosettes and Premiums.Over all Grand Champion $10 and special award, Over all Reserve Grand Champion $8. Showmanship is highly encouraged.

DIVISION 7- GOAT ALL BREED SPECIALTY CLASSES

NOTE: For Angora Goat Fiber register in class 061006 5-7 Competitive Exhibitors are eligible to enter classes 080704 AND 080705.

DIVISION 8- GOAT CONTEST CLASSES

Placing:1 through 6, Ribbons and Premiums.

Learning Objective: To demonstrate skills involving costume coordination, show preparation, and milking techniques learned.

Judging:All Goat Contest Classes will be judged on Thursday, July 12th starting at 9:00 am.

Rules for milking class:Contestants will milk for the time of one (1) minute.Each exhibitor

will milk his or her own goat.Milk will be weighed and placing will be determined by pounds milked.Milking class will be Thursday, July 12th at 9 AM.

Rules for Costume Class: A goat exhibitor may show one entry in this class.Both the goat and exhibitor must be in costume to compete. Costumes must be safe for the animal, exhibitor and spectators and must not cause discomfort to the animal.

Rules for Obstacle Class: To be posted day of class.Obstacle class will show Thursday, July 12th after the costume class.Exhibitors registering for the goat obstacle course MUST show their project animal. Competition animals may only be shown by one exhibitor.An open obstacle course will be held following the competition for any exhibitor interest in trying for fun.
