Learning Objective: To encourage and develop techniques and knowledge through camera images.
Rules: Maximum of one entry per class. Photos must be original and taken with any device by the exhibitor and entered in one class only. Editing Guidelines: create a true to life representation of the scene or subject. Photos cannot be enhanced except with these edits: brightness, contrast, white balance, cropping, enlarging, the creating of a black and white photo or editing for creative categories.
Story Board Rules: Exhibitors must enter individual work mounted on a 16” x 20” foam mounting board- not poster board. No frames. Include three (3) to five (5) pictures. Title for exhibit may be used, but do not caption or number pictures. Pictures should tell the story.
Placings and Awards:
Divisions 1-17: 1-6 Strip Ribbons and Premium Money.
Best of Show: 1-6 Rosettes, First Place- $5.00 and Trophy

Nature Landscape
Nature Landscape is a photo of large outdoor scene such as garden, lake, field or mountain scene. Depth of field, straight horizons and rule of thirds are important to consider. Nature Landscape is not a snapshot of a street or backyard or a photo taken through a car window and usually in landscape format
Urban Landscape
Urban Landscape is a photo of large outdoor urban scene such a cityscape or street scene. Depth of field, straight horizons and leading lines are important to consider. Urban Landscape is not a snapshot of a street or yard or a photo taken through a car window.
Architecture
Architecture is a photo of a building or architectural elements such as doors or windows as a major focal point. Straight horizons and leading lines are important to consider. Architecture is not a snapshot of a street or yard with no focal point.
Portrait
Portrait is a representation of the person with emphasis of face and upper body. Eye contact is preferred. Focal point and emotional connection are important. Portrait is not a random snapshot of a person without connecting to the photographer (i.e. person on a bicycle riding by).
Events
Event photo is a photograph captured during a concert, wedding, fair, sporting event or other gathering with emphasis on capturing the mood, interaction or moment to represent this event or tell a story. Event photo is not a random snapshot with no storytelling or purpose.
Animal Portrait
Animal Portrait is a representation of an animal with emphasis and focal point of the head or whole body. Focal point and emotional connection are important. Close up of insects where insect show major presence may be considered an Animal Portrait. Animal Portrait is not a random snapshot with an animal in it (deer in distance among the trees with no clear focus or a bee on a large beautiful flower).
Macros and Close-ups
A close-up photo is an image that portrays an item larger than life. Examples include water droplets, flowers, innate objects or details.
LEONA HUTCHINGS MEMORIAL TROPHY
2019 Winner
This trophy is awarded to the youth who makes a special effort in a photography project. It is not necessarily the Best of Show or a 1st place rosette entry, but the exhibitor demonstrates an extra determination to produce a quality photographic exhibit. This award remembers Leona Hutchings, who always gave 100% of herself to 4-H through her photography. This revolving trophy is donated by Farm Bureau. A personal trophy will also be awarded for the recipient to keep. This award is available until 2028.
SINGLE PRINTS
Photos cannot be enhanced beyond cropping, enlarging or creating of black and white photos. The photo MUST be 8X10 printed on photo paper with no borders. Photo should be inserted in a clear 3 hole plastic page protector. Please review photo definitions to determine if your photos meet the entry guidelines.

Rules: Photos MAY be enhanced by an app (like VSCO, Snapseed, Adobe Photoshop Mix and others) or software (like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Picasa and others). The photo MUST be 8X10 with no borders with an exception to Creative Cropping Division.
DIVISION 15- CREATIVE PHOTO MANIPULATION
This is a photo created by combining several photos in a new altered realistic or fantasy images with use of an app or software. Photos have to be captured by exhibitor.

DIVISION 17-CREATIVE-IN THE MOMENT
This is a photo captured by a mobile device, when a spontaneous moment presents itself. This photo should represent the emotion and/or story of the moment. Selfies, unique moments and meaningful snapshots are perfect for this division. Good lighting and general photography principles are still an important part of creating this type of photo.
